Locally Grown Food
People are becoming dissatisfied with the idea of their food being produced with pesticides and pollution. Many consumers favor organic food even if it's at a higher price. Most consumers would choose locally grown organic food if the price was the same as conventionally grown food. This trend leads to the possibility of the return to small family farms where organic food is locally grown.
Farmers markets are growing in popularity as more people believe in supporting local small farms. The majority of fresh fruits and vegetables can be grown and distributed within a local region. Large greenhouses will make this possible on a year-round basis.
If the majority of food needed to support a population was grown within a 200mi. circumference of the community, distribution costs would be lowered. In addition, centralizing food production in different regional areas would guarantee survival in the event of an energy crisis.
