Federal Standards

We can all agree that there are core subject areas that all students should master: literacy, mathematics, science and others. Standardizing these core areas provides a foundation for students so they may communicate about the world they live in.
The standards currently in place vary from state to state. Students in one state may not be expected to perform at the same level as students in other states. If we truly wanted to standardize education in this nation, we should create standards at a federal level.
The professionals who worked ardently to develop standards in each state can be convened to work together to develop standards at the federal level.
National tests should be developed for core subjects and teachers should aim for all students to reach proficiency.
